What is prenatal massage?

With gentle touch and careful attention to the needs of your changing body, prenatal massage is designed to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and just make you feel good! Prenatal massage is similar to regular massage, but is tailored for the particular needs of moms-to-be.

What are the benefits of prenatal massage?

Most women who receive prenatal massage note increased feelings of well-being and experience better breathing overall. Women who choose regular massage in the postpartum period often find that they experience speedier recovery times and improved breastfeeding. Massage may also help to:

  • Decrease stress and cortisol levels
  • Decrease pain
  • Reduce swelling
  • Improve sleep
  • Balance hormones
  • Lessen pre-labor and labor discomfort
  • May decrease labor time
  • Improve circulation to placenta and baby
  • Improve milk supply
  • Lessen post labor pains

What should I expect during my massage?

During prenatal massage, traditional massage techniques are adapted to make the experience both comfortable and supportive for pregnant women. Firm, yet gentle touch is used to soothe sore muscles,

Special positioning is required during prenatal massages to accommodate for your beautiful ever changing body. Depending on your preference special positioning pillows are used to allow you to lay on your stomach without discomfort, pressure, or strain on your belly. If you are not comfortable resting on your stomach, we are able to position you in a relaxed side-lying position, very similar to the way you would sleep.

For postpartum massage, bolsters are also provided to alleviate pressure on your chest. Postpartum massages may be received as early as 3 days postpartum.

Need to bring your baby to your appointment?

Many new moms enjoy having a break from their little one. However, if this is not an option for you, please let us know and we can provide a playpen.

Serving new moms in and around Greensboro.

We look forward to working with you on your journey into motherhood!
